Gingerbread Day
This holiday season, the Noah
Webster House & West Hartford Historical
Society invites the public to a special holiday
program. This
year’s annual Gingerbread Day will take
place on Saturday, December 5.
Begin or continue your family’s gingerbread house tradition
at one of three sessions at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. A
special evening session will take place at 6:30
p.m. on Friday, December 4.
Kids
and adults alike can create their own miniature masterpiece out
of fresh-baked gingerbread, icing, and candy. Local
baker and entrepreneur Christine Brooks, owner
of Sweet Domestics and creator of the Spicebrook
Forest Gingerbread House kit, will lead the workshop.
She will give tips and advice on building a gingerbread
house and demonstrate decorating ideas.
The new exhibit Noah Webster: Weaver of Words
will officially open that day. Pegi Dietz-Shea recently wrote the children’s
book of the same title. The exhibit will showcase the original
illustrations from the book, painted by artist Monica Vachula. Both
Dietz-Shea and Vachula will be on hand to sign
copies of the newly published book.
Bring your family and friends and create your
own gingerbread house. Local baker Christine
Brooks leads the workshop. Workshop
fee is $15 per house ($12 for museum members),
instruction and materials included. Due to space
constraints, a maximum of three people can work
on one house. Call 860-521-5362 x21 to register
by Wednesday, December 2. Registration
is required. Spicebrook
Gingerbread House kits and accessories will be
available for sale in the Museum Gift Shop
through the holidays. Visit
