Kids’ First Saturday: Paper making Saturday, August 7, 1-3 p.m.
Kids and adults can learn to make paper. The cost per person is $12. Museum members cost is $10 per person. Children and adults are welcome to sign up. Registration is required and space is limited.

Noah’s Discovery Activity: August 7, 1-4 p.m.
Sewing and embroidery skills were important in the colonial era. Boys and soldiers needed to know how to fix rips and tears in the field. Girls needed to sew to keep their family’s clothing and linens in good shape.  You can learn a few simple stitches with needle and thread. $3 per child, or free with museum admission.
 
Colonial Crafts and Trades Workshops Monday-Friday, August 23-27 Session A: 9 a.m. to noon, Session B: 1-4 p.m.

Kids’ First Saturday: Paper Marbling: Saturday, September 4, 1-3 p.m.
Kids and parents can learn how to create marbled paper! Paper marbling is a centuries old art form. It was popular during the eighteenth century for binding and covering books.  Participants will learn to marble paper and cover a book to take home with them.  Artist Kelly Hall leads this interactive workshop.  The cost per person is $12. Museum members cost is $10 per person. Children and adults are welcome to sign up. Registration is required and space is limited. Call 860-521-5362 x21 to register.

Noah’s Discovery Activity: Saturday, September 4, 1-4 p.m.
When Noah Webster taught school, “slates” or chalkboards were used instead of paper and pencils. Paper was expensive back then and hard to find. You’ll learn how to write on a slate with a slate pencil just like Noah did when he was a child. $3 per child, or free with museum admission.

A Colonial Girls’ Day Out: Saturday, September 11, 10 a.m.
Girls and their favorite doll are invited to a special day of  fun at the Noah Webster House!  They will have a tea party, play games, and make the game of graces and a set of homemade paper dolls! $17 per child, $15 for members. Girls age six and over are invited. Please call (860)521-5362 x21 to register by Thursday, September 9.  Registration is required.

Kids’ First Saturday: Colonial Games: Saturday, October 2, 1-4 p.m.
Drop in to play some fun colonial games like Skittles, Fox & Geese, Graces, and hoop and stick. $5 per child.

Beer Tasting with Samuel Adams Thursday, October 14, 7 p.m.
Try some of Sam’s best year-round and seasonal brews! Details to follow.

West Hartford Hauntings: October 23, 29, & 30
Join in this spooky, theatrical nighttime tour of the North Cemetery. Meet past residents of the Town as they tell their tales- but beware of those who wander the night! Tours depart every 15 minutes from 6-8 p.m.

Noah’s Discovery Activity: Saturday, November 6 1-4 p.m.
Drop in and learn about historic quilts- even design your own! $3 per child, or free with museum admission.

Poetry Reading: Friday, November 12 6:30 p.m.
Past Poet Laureate Maria Sassi hosts this open-mic event

Gingerbread Day Saturday, December 4
Begin or continue your family’s gingerbread house tradition at one of three sessions at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. on Saturday. A special evening session will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, December 3. 

Kids and adults alike can create their own miniature masterpiece out of fresh-baked gingerbread, icing, and candy.  Local baker and entrepreneur Christine Brooks, owner of Sweet Domestics and creator of the Spicebrook Forest Gingerbread House kit, will lead the workshop. The fee is $15 per house ($12 for museum members), instruction and materials included.  Due to space constraints, a maximum of three people can work on one house.  Call 860-521-5362 x21 to register by Wednesday, December 1.  Registration is required.  Visit www.SweetDomestics.com for the full line of products.
