School April Vacation Workshops for Kids

The Museum offers a series of workshops for kids during April school vacation week. On each day, there will be two 3-hour workshops for kids ages 7-12.

Kids need magic in their lives.  Whimsy, a belief in that which can’t be seen, fairies, elves and gnomes are what makes up the whimsical fairy land they will create.

SOLD OUT! Tuesday, April 9, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Terrarium and Birdhouse

Spring has sprung!  Grow your own herbs by creating a garden in a jar!  Take your terrarium home and watch your garden grow.  Plant a pet rock for your garden and make a birdhouse or bird feeder too!

A child’s favorite. Young cooks will use colonial recipes and cook over an open hearth the old-fashioned way! (space fills up quickly)

SOLD OUT! Wednesday, April 10, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Popcorn, Popcorn Boxes & Snow Cones

Did you know colonists popped corn over an open fire?  No microwave popcorn for them.  Make caramel corn over an open fire, create your own popcorn box, and syrup for the snow cones to enjoy with it while playing colonial games.

Back by popular demand.  Kids love pizza!  They love making and eating pizza!  Make and bake pizza the traditional way in our historic beehive oven, colonial style.

Thursday, April 11, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sea Shell Crafts

Colonists cooked their shell fish in the fireplace, and made use of the shells as well.  They made clam shell spoons, and Floating Betty Lamps.  Create you own seashell crafts.

Friday, April 12, 9 a.m. to noon  Hearth Cooking II

Friday, April 12, 1 p.m.  to 4 p.m.  Dog or Cat Snuffle Mat

Do you love to play games with your dog or cat?  A homemade snuffle mat allows your pet to sniff and search for hidden treats.  Made out of a plastic mat and fleece.

Registration Information
The program fee is $25 per child, per workshop ($20 for museum members). Please pack your child a snack. Pre-registration is required. Call the Education Department at (860) 521-5362 ext.14. Bring a bagged lunch when registering kids for both sessions! The cut off date to register you child for the above workshops is Friday, April 5, 2019, at 5 p.m.  Please register your child early.  Thank You.

Cancellation Policy
Requests for refunds (minus a 10% processing fee) will be honored up to one (1) week before the start of the workshops. Full refunds will be given if the session is cancelled due to under enrollment.
