West Hartford Museum Hosts 262nd Birthday Party for Founding Father
On Saturday, October 17, 2020, the public is invited to a birthday party for founding father, Noah Webster, at the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society, 227 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT. Don’t just drive by; stop in! This is your chance to tour Noah’s childhood home, eat, play games, learn about sheep and wool preparation, and have fun.
What do you do for a 262nd birthday? Hold a party of course! From 12 to 7 p.m., the Noah Webster House has a day of fun, food trucks, activities, and history planned to honor Noah Webster. Learn more about West Hartford’s most famous son with a tour of Webster’s c. 1720 home! Meet Ivory, a sheep from Westmoor Park, and imagine what the 200-acre Webster farm was once like. Observe live wool-carding and spinning demonstrations. Or try your hand at some outdoor lawn games, including colonial games like Nine Man’s Morris and Geese and Fox. (Sanitizing wipes and/or disposable game pieces will be utilized.)
Two food trucks will be on location throughout the day: Iron & Grain Co. and Square Peg Pizzeria. Iron & Grain Co. has fresh and locally sourced foods cooked over an open flame out of a repurposed 1959 Chevy Viking. Visit Iron & Grain’s truck for favorites like Black & Blue Burgers and Street Corn, or for a signature cocktail. Square Peg Pizzeria is a modern Amer-Italian restaurant featuring unbeatable wood-fired pizzas and familiar plates with a touch of undeniable culinary excellence from a fresh-from-scratch kitchen. Square Peg’s pizza dough is not only handmade; it’s kneaded daily over four days to create an unbelievable texture.
The Noah Webster House will be serving up dessert – Noah’s favorite pie! – in addition to local craft beer from City Steam and New England Brewing Co. Alcohol will be available only to those 21 years or older. A valid ID will be required.
Noah’s Birthday Bash is an outdoor event. Entry will be timed, limiting the number of people on site at one time. Safety precautions will be followed in compliance with state guidance on COVID-19 prevention. Masks are required unless seated and eating. We ask that guests maintain social distance and utilize good hygiene. Sanitizing stations will be on site.
