DESCRIPTION:The Noah Webster House at 227 South Main Street is excited to host the Fifth Annual Holiday Market in 2024. Enjoy the opportunity to find the best gifts for family and friends while also supporting small\, local businesses this holiday season. This year\, the museum will be offering this market over two weekends\, featuring over 20 different local vendors each weekend. Vendors will be set up throughout the museum offering a wide range of crafts and handmade gift items. The Holiday Market will be open for shopping on Saturday and Sunday\, November 16 & 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (first weekend)\, Friday\, December 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.\, and Saturday and Sunday\, December 7 & 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (second weekend). No registration is required. The museum suggests a $5 donation upon entry\, which helps support museum educational initiatives. \nThe West Hartford Gift Shop is the anchor vendor at the Holiday Market and will have many products available\, including the new cozy West Hartford and Connecticut sweaters and scarves\, the Julia Gash collection\, featuring the town’s most iconic features and the places that make our town unique. The gift shop also carries a selection of literary-themed items including scarves\, notecards\, and drinkware. \nThe new West Hartford collectible holiday ornament will feature the old Town Hall on South Main Street. The cornerstone of the building was laid on March 12\, 1936. It was built under the auspices of the government’s Works Progress Administration\, which sought to create jobs during the Depression.  A limited number of ornaments are available\, so it recommended to pre-order now at westhartfordgiftshop.com. Ornaments may be picked up at the Holiday Market. \nThe museum is offering this holiday tradition to support local businesses\, many of them newer and without their own brick and mortar location. A special thank you to the Mangs family for sponsoring this year’s Holiday Market! Artisans will be showcasing their artwork in many categories including jewelry\, candles\, pottery\, notecards\, woodworking pieces\, fiber arts and so much more.

Featuring John Brighenti & Gail Lumpkin\, “Lullaby of Broadway\,” offers a selection of classic songs from the early days of the Great White Way to the present! Enjoy selections from classic composers like Ira & George Gershwin\, Cole Porter\, Leonard Bernstein\, Stephen Sondheim\, Marvin Hamlisch\, and more! Relive your favorite songs from Broadway’s finest musicals\, including My Fair Lady\, A Chorus Line\, South Pacific\, and West Side Story… and maybe some holiday favorites. \n*Doors open to the presentation at 6:00pm\, and seating is on a first come-first served basis.  Seating is limited to 50 guests\, and registration is available now. \nAbout the Musicians: \nJohn Brighenti graduated from the Hartt School of Music and went on to study privately with noted jazz musicians Ray Cassarino\, Lennie Tristano\, and Jerry Bergonzi. His professional experiences as a pianist include performing with numerous orchestras (1977 toured the U.S. with the Glenn Miller Orchestra)\, lounge groups\, jazz ensembles and vocalists in the New England states\, Atlanta\, Phoenix\, and Las Vegas. \nGail Lumpkin performs throughout New England with the six-piece band “Celebrity” and Pianist/arranger John Brighenti. She also performs with Walter Gwardyak and has performed with the late Donn Trenner. She was the featured vocalist with the Paul Landerman Orchestra\, performing for Three U. S. Presidents and a multitude of local political and charitable events and was invited to sing the National Anthem at Yankee Stadium. She has also performed with the Ed Bant Trio and the Hot Cat Jazz Band. She currently works as a consultant and music mentor at the Kinsella Magnet School of Performing Arts.

These readings will take place from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on September 28\, October 19\, November 9\, & December 14.\n\n\nRead here for the most up to date information on speakers. All readings take place at the Noah Webster House and begin with an open mic. No registration is required. Each poetry reading is free and open to the public. Donations are greatly appreciated in order to support future programming at the Noah Webster House. Penelope Pelizzon\nReading starts with Open Mic \nA dual citizen of the Republic of Ireland and the US\, Debbie Gilbert has written seven poetry collections\, the most recent\, Finches in Kilmainham and Misneach: A Story of Kidnap\, Enslavement\, and Colonialism (Grayson Books\, 2024). Three-time Pushcart nominee\, she serves on the board of the Riverwood Poetry Series and as co-editor of the Connecticut River Review. \nV. Penelope Pelizzon’s fourth book\, A Gaze Hound That Hunteth by the Eye (Pitt Poetry Series\, 2024) is a LitHub recommendation for 2024. Her first\, Nostos\, won the Poetry Society of America’s Norma Farber First Book Award;  her second\, Whose Flesh Is Flame\, Whose Bone Is Time\, was a finalist for the Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize.
