Description
We need people like YOU! You appreciate history and understand how the past informs the present. You value especially your community and are glad the museum is here to preserve objects, memorabilia, and documents from West Hartford’s past.
The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society is an active museum – especially for its small size. We offer around 50 programs per year, host over 5,000 students per year through our school programs, and serve 8,000 students annually through The Connecticut Spelling Bee. The museum is open 7 days a week for tours of Noah Webster’s c. 1747 birthplace, where we offer tablet or docent led tours of the house. We strive to share the story of Noah Webster and his legacy of language, as well as the evolving history of the town that nurtured him – West Hartford, Connecticut.
Our members sustain us. Membership dues assist greatly in the museum’s operating budget. But more than that, membership makes us feel proud to be located in the wonderful community that is West Hartford. No where else would we find the same mix of racially and religiously diverse civic-minded residents. Your membership shows us that you are one of the civic minded residents that CARES about history and heritage.
Not every town is lucky enough to have such an active history museum! At a time when some historical societies are reducing hours and services, Noah’s home continues to increase its impact. The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society is proud to have served the greater West Hartford area for over 50 years – preserving a National Historic Landmark and West Hartford history, bringing tourists to West Hartford, enriching lives, and providing a gathering place for our community.
