Haven’t been to the Noah Webster House since your own school days?   Take this opportunity to reacquaint yourself with this National Historic Landmark museum and all that we have to offer!

Join us for an Open House on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

  • Explore how our offerings fit with your curriculum and how you can tailor a visit to suit your students’ needs.

  • Enjoy snacks & refreshments by the hearth.
  • Explore program options for schools and youth groups with our education staff.
  • Join us for a special live demonstration of our “Life on the Webster Farm” programming in our reproduction hearth kitchen.
  • Learn how we are celebrating historical milestones and civics through engaging workshops, tours, and programs.
  • Take home self-guided materials, craft instructions, and lesson plans to use with your students.
  • If a field trip to the museum isn’t possible, learn more about our outreach options to have our educators come to you!
  • Be entered into a raffle to win classroom goodies!

Our teacher open house day is free for educators and one guest. All activities and workshops will take place on-site at the Noah Webster House.

The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society operates the National Historic Landmark birthplace of Noah Webster, known as “America’s Schoolmaster” for his many contributions to American education.   Webster published the “Blue-Backed Speller” in 1783, which taught generations of Americans to read, and which sold an estimated 60 million copies during his lifetime.   In 1828, he published “An American Dictionary of the English Language”, which is still published 200 years later by the Merriam-Webster Company.
