Did you know that at least 25 slaveholders enslaved more than 62 people in West Hartford from the 1690s to the 1820s? Bristow, Caesar, Hannibal, Hercules, Simone, Pompey, Ben, Page, Prut, and Chris are people who were enslaved here in our community, but have been absent in West Hartford’s history. . .until now.
Join Witness Stones Project West Hartford co-directors, Tracey Wilson and Elizabeth Devine, and West Hartford students as they present their work learning about Connecticut’s slave holding past and the lives of enslaved people in West Hartford.
The public reception is June 5, 6 p.m. at the Noah Webster House, 227 S. Main St., West Hartford. Student work will be featured and Elizabeth Devine and Tracey Wilson will share information about the Witness Stones West Hartford project. The reception is sponsored by Thrivent Financial.
