WordHouse Poetry – March 18

Join us at the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society for a FREE poetry reading on Wednesday, March 18 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Each program begins with an open mic and features two headlining poets. This month’s poets are Judith Liebmann and Jefferson Singer. About the poets:

Jefferson Singer is a poet and clinical psychologist living in West Hartford.  A recipient of the Academy of American Poets Prize at Amherst College, as well as a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, he obtained a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Yale University and went on to forge a career as a professor of psychology at Connecticut College over nearly 4 decades.  In recent years, he has increasingly focused on writing poetry and has had poems appear in SixfoldOrenaug Mountain Poetry Journal, the Medical Literary MessengerHartford Arts Pages and the Winter Glimmerings anthology, among other journals.  He published his first book of poems, In Common Things (Shanti Arts Press) in 2024. He has given readings at The Packing House, Noah Webster Library, and for Poets from the CT’s Four Corners, among other venues.  For this upcoming reading, he will share new poems that focus on the extraordinary life of his late brother who successfully coped with chronic mental illness.

Judith Liebmann has published poetry in Scientific American, The New York Times, The Laurel Review, The Cream City Review among others and her work has been included in a number of anthologies. She recently published the collection, Ekphrasis (PreSSappel, 2024). She holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from Yale University, where she taught for many years and where she served as the Director of the Writing Program at the Center for Independent Study at Yale. She has been the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship, a Wilson Fellowship, a Germanistic Society of America Grant, a German University Exchange Grant and a writing grant from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts
