Join us at the Noah Webster House for a series of FREE poetry readings, hosted by James Finnegan, West Hartford’s third Poet Laureate. These readings will take place from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on September 28, October 19, November 9, & December 14.

Victoria Norland

Margaret Gibson and actress Heather Oakley 
will be giving a dramatic presentation of Gibson’s new book
Draw Me Without Boundaries, a work of poetry and prose.

Reading begins with an Open Mic (Limited due to special program: First 8 poets, one 1 poem per reader. )

Margaret Gibson, the state Poet Laureate of Connecticut from 2019-through 2022, has published 14 books of poems, all with LSU Press, just recently DRAW ME WITHOUT BOUNDARIES.  Prior to this experimental book of poetry and prose, Gibson brought out a trilogy, which includes Broken Cup, Not Hearing the Wood Thrush, and The Glass Globe, which won the Connecticut Book Award in Poetry.   Her AWARDS include The Lamont Selection, Melville Kane Award, Connecticut Book Award (twice). She was a Finalist for the National Book Award, 1993, and for the Poets’ Prize, 2016.  As Poet Laureate, and with a grant from the Academy of American Poets, she edited an anthology, Waking Up to the Earth: Connecticut Poets in a Time of Global Climate Crisis.

Heather Oakley is an actor, director, and educator who taught theater-related curricula in New York City for over twenty years. She trained at The Atlantic Theater Company’s Acting School and was invited to become a member of their faculty where she taught Meisner-based Moment Lab classes, Scene Study, and Film Acting to their New York University undergraduates and Conservatory students. Heather was also the Master Teaching Artist and the Educational Consultant for Atlantic’s Staging Success Program in New York City’s public schools. Heather is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College (AB) and Columbia University (MA).

Victoria Nordlund is the Poet Laureate of Glastonbury, CT, and lead master teaching artist of The Nook Farm Writers Collaborative at The Mark Twain House & Museum. Her poetry collections Wine-Dark Sea and Binge Watching Winter on Mute are published by Main Street Rag. She is a Best of the Net and Pushcart Prize Nominee, whose work has appeared in PANK Magazine, Rust+Moth, Chestnut Review, Maudlin House, trampset, and elsewhere. Visit her at VictoriaNordlund.com

Each poetry reading is free and open to the public. Donations are greatly appreciated in order to support future programming at the Noah Webster House. The Noah Webster House will be open 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. during each reading and visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets to tour the historic home.
