Defining Authors of Connecticut!

Since Connecticut’s origins as one of the thirteen original states, the Nutmeg State has always produced (or attracted) exceptional authors, poets & essayists to its cozy confines… creative minds that could wield their pen to great effect, helping to shape public opinion, call attention to an injustice, present their observations on their fellow man, or simply muse about the meaning of human existence.

Noah Webster, Jupiter Hammon, Lydia Sigourney, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Catherine Beecher, Mark Twain, Charles Dudley Warner & Wallace Stevens are familiar names of past centuries, and in recent times, writers like Dominick Dunne, Mary-Ann Tirone Smith, Brendan Gill and Ocean Vuong may come to mind.

In the spring of 2026, Professor Mary Collins’ writing students at Central Connecticut State University sought out Connecticut’s new generation of writers…asking them to look inward…and define themselves.
